The Kids From Brazil

My brother and his family are up visiting from the Amazon. He works down there as a bush-pilot. Floatplane. His children, who range in age from three to thirteen, are equally comfortable in the jungle as they are in plain old California. Very interesting kids. Very interesting perspective on life.

I think more Americans should go live in third-world countries for a spell. It would make us all more grateful for the cereal aisle in our grocery stores.

Or disgusted by them, as the case may be.

There's nothing shameful about our cereal isles. Those cereal boxes are allowing more people, than would otherwise be the case, to provide food and shelter for their spouses and children. The American cereal isles, I would argue, are examples of the residue of Godliness and Freedom.

Oh, you are all so wrong, I side with Misha on this one. (surprise surprise) The cereal isle is the root of our struggle with mental illnesses - depression, anxiety, etc. Picking between Cocoa Pebbles, Cocoa puffs, Count Chocula or Chocogenerics and then trying to figure out which is the best value when they are all different sizes and prices, and then making sure the cheapest one isn't loaded with some secret killer ingredient.... Now multiply this accross the entire supermarket and suddenly you understand why depression hits women (the primary grocery shoper) more often than men.
Shameful indeed.

I suppose you can always make your own, sans the need to head off to the psychologist. My mom has been making granola since we were little kids. Great recipe. Oats, nuts, honey, etc. Bakes it in the oven. Keeps forever and tastes way better than anything in the store.

yah, I was mostly kidding about that.... seems like everyone comes up with the root of our mental woes at one time or another. I just wanted to blame it on the cereal isle.
